Kristi Noem announces all agents will wear body cameras in Minneapolis

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem just confirmed that all Department of Homeland Security officials who are deployed in Minneapolis will be wearing body cameras that are issued by the government.

She said that the change would come into place with immediate effect. The decision comes after intense criticism and scrutiny of immigration enforcement practices in the city following two separate fatal shootings that entailed federal agents.

Law enforcement had to face intense protests and criticism over their transparency, as many called for the agents to wear these cameras to get a better picture and record interactions with the public.

Noem added how the latest rollout is just the initial step and that the department plans to expand the body camera program around the country as funding becomes more accessible.

The shift in policy arises amid a bigger debate over immigration enforcement and federal accountability, including conflicts in Congress over funding for the DHS.
