Acclaimed US actor John Lithgow has taken a swipe at controversial author JK Rowling's public stance on trans issues.
The famous star, known for playing Professor Albus Dumbledore in HBO's upcoming Harry Potter series, shared his thoughts on how he finds Rowling's views so ironic and inexplicable. This is given the fact that Harry Potter books were widely celebrated for themes of kindness, acceptance, and compassion.
He even stressed about how Rowling is not closely linked to day production of the show and praised the creative team behind this adaptation.
The star acknowledged that deciding to take on such a role is so hard, especially after some members of the public and friends urged him to step away because of Rowling's past statements.
Despite the huge backlash, Lithgow defended his decision, adding more about how he wants to focus more on the core values of the tale and that Dumbledore remains an important and beautiful character to play.
He also shared that he is prepared for differing opinions around his involvement.
